Spelling Bee

Porter is really into figuring out how to spell things lately. So I just had to post about this one...

He and I are driving in the van and he suddenly pipes up...

"Mom, I know how to spell STOP....S-T-O-P!" I said, GOOD JOB!

He then says, so how do you spell hat, I say H-A-T!

"Oh", he says. "Well, how do you spell Tad?" (The green frog off of Leapfrog, you know the one)

Again I spelled T-A-D. "Okay", he says.

A minute later he says "Well then how do you spell AWKWARD?" I busted up laughing.

Why in the world did he need to know how to spell awkward? That is so hilarious!

52 Blessing Project
WEEK 16
I Am Thankful For...

My Sister JANA- Banana

Jana is AMAZING!!! She has to be one of the funniest people I've ever met! She has such a great sense of humor and is SOOOO WITTY! She has a magnetic personality and everyone she meets immediately loves her! I was waiting to post about her until her birthday in July but I just couldn't stand it any longer!

Jana has always been my best friend! She is 5 years older than me so there was some teenage time that I'm sure she thought I was the biggest pest ever but she has always been the best big sister! She taught me to ride my bike and drive our first car...ha ha ha A pinto with laminate wood paneling :) We bought it together and were suppose to share it once I got old enough to drive but by then we had wrecked it too much! We really had our fair share of fender benders! Jan...remember Banky, banky, banky?

One memory I will never forget is our love for "Little House on the Prairie"...we loved that show and would do just about anything to get our mom to let us watch it. We spent many hours watching and crying our eyes out over that show.

Jana has such inner strength. She's a single mom who went back to school when her kids were babies and became a nurse. She has worked tirelessly to provide for her 4 great kids and has done everything she does out of love for them! She is a great example of perseverance, even in the face of trials! She is such a wonderful person and I feel so lucky to be her sister!

Jana...I love you more than ever! You are such a giving, loving person and you do so much for everyone around you! Thank you for always being there for me! You're the BEST!!

GOOD NEWS!!!

Good New!! Chad's last CT scan of his chest came back normal! We were so relieved to hear this great news. They said it must have been bronchial, something due to that awful cold and flu he had just before surgery! YEA!!! We love good news! Chad is well on his way to surgical recovery and now we're all set up for him to start Radiation Therapy in about 1 week. We were so thankful to visit with the oncologist as he was very informative and gave us all sorts of great news like...Chad's radiation will be 18 doses=18 days. He will go M-F for 3 1/2 weeks. Dr. Lee prescribed the anti-nausea medication which will be a huge help. He did say that Chad will be very, very tired but that once he stops the treatments, he should get back his normal energy level within a month or two!!! EXCELLENT REPORT!

We again want to thank all of you who have emailed, phoned etc. We feel so blessed by the many prayers that are offered on our behalf! We have definitely felt the Lord's hand through all of this and can't help but love the growth that comes through trials!

We are so thankful that Chad's cancer is treatable and curable! There are so many that are so much worse! This has been such a blessing for our family! Thank you again!

We're Learning ALL that CANCER cannot do!

I just have to say, we are learning and growing so much through this process. It's been a blessing in disguise! ha ha Who would have known cancer was a "gift"...It's refining and purifying us all along the way! Chad is AMAZING!!! He has such clarity about the beauty of this all. He is teaching me so much through his insight and example! I believe we've been given this "gift" as an opportunity to grow leaps and bounds! We're truly blessed!

Addition to WEEK 14

Okay...so Garrett and I were able to attend today's morning session along with Music and the Spoken Word. WOW!!! I mean, WOW! I don't know what it is about me and music but I literally fell to pieces when the Mormon Tab sang "Consider the Lillies"....that has always been a favorite of mine but I could barley contain myself today.

I need that song to be performed at my funeral please! Any takers!!!

Again we were so blessed to partake of another conference session. I am just overwhelmed with feelings of love and admiration for our new First Presidency! I think my favorite part of the whole experience was watching President Monson, President Eyring and President Uchtdorf give each other a tender squeeze on the arm, pat on the leg or when all three of them joined hands and gave a big squeeze! We were really close to the front today and to witness that was remarkable! HOW TOUCHING!!! Not only did I witness their genuine love for one another but their INTENSE love and devotion to the Savior!

I feel like I'm on cloud nine but that "home-sick" stomach ache I get after every conference is already starting to set in. Do you think that is just our spirits longing for home? I get it every time! Today I did not want to leave the conference center. I was wishing I could hide out under the seats or something but...I know others need to have that same wonderful experience!

Just wanted to share!

52 Blessing Project
WEEK 14
I AM THANKFUL FOR....

ATTENDING THE SOLEMN ASSEMBLY

General Conference

Kaden and I were so lucky to have tickets (thanks Joe and Lisa) to Saturday A.M. Session of General Conference. It was a historic event indeed! The Solemn Assembly was AWESOME! I'm sure most of you participated at home or Stake buildings but to be there in the Conference Center was just INCREDIBLE!

My tears started immediately upon President Monson's arrival. He came through the side hall curtain and the most amazing HUSH came over the entire hall. It became SILENT in about 2.5 seconds and you could have heard a pin drop! It was remarkable! Instantly I felt a huge gush from the spirit bearing witness that this was a prophet of God! Tears continued to flow!

Then when they started having us stand and sustain the First Presidency, Apostles and Seventy's, I just bawled! It was probably one of the most spiritual experiences I've had in a long time. I just marveled that I was even present. I'm so thankful for the opportunity we have been given to have such privileges. We truly are so blessed! Kaden thought it was a pretty cool experience too and when he stood as one of the Aaronic Priesthood holders, I just cried! It was so touching to witness! He is such a great son and he is going to be such an awesome leader as he continues to age. He was recently called as the Deacon Quorum President. He was so honored! It was so cute to watch him accept the call and then another great experience to watch the Bishopric set him apart! Too cool! It's so great being a MOM of such great kids! I love them all so much!

I have to agree with Elder Ronald A. Rasband about EXPERIENCES! His talk was all about experiences and how they can renew our faith! Today definitely did it for me!

I CAN'T WAIT FOR TOMORROW MORNING WHEN I GET TO GO AGAIN TO THE SUNDAY A.M. SESSION THIS TIME WITH GARRETT!!!

Update on Chad's Cancer

Friday- April 4th

Yesterday was our follow up from the CT scan on Monday. Dr. Clark had good news~ the biopsy came back as Seminoma which means it was the typical testicular type of cancer. It has a 98% cure rate with removal and radiation therapy. We were THRILLED to hear this news. Then he said that Chad would need 1 more CT scan on his chest- the chest x-ray on Monday showed one small “spot” on his lungs. The CT is scheduled for today, Friday. We won’t hear back about that spot until Tuesday or Thursday of next week. So, we’re still on pins and needles waiting for that but we are hoping for the best of news! If the spot comes back negative as a tumor, then we will proceed forward and in about 2-3 weeks Chad will begin his 8+ weeks of radiation. If the spot in his lungs is cancer, we will be meeting with an oncologist to discuss Chemotherapy. As you might guess we are praying that spot is just something else.

We are feeling very blessed and watched over and have felt the strength of your thoughts and prayers for us. Thank you again for your many loving words of encouragement and hope! We are so blessed!!!!

Love,
~Nikki

52 Blessing Project
WEEK 13
I Am Thankful For...

DETERMINATION
This quote just seemed to fit so well this week! We are determined to beat this...this trial of our faith and determination! Chad is so optomistic and absolutely my rock through this! I of course am very emotional about it all but Chad just keeps it so light hearted! He's AMAZING!!! I have already felt the hand of the Lord as well as his LOVE as we have encountered this cancer thing! I'm not really ready to "embrace" it but I'm pushing myself in that direction! It has been overwhelming the love and support of all of you that has poured in! I guess it's times like these where you really discover your angels on earth! Thank you....

We're going into the Urologist again tomorrow for our CT scan follow up and we're keeping our fingers crossed that he will also have the pathology report with a concrete biopsy! We'll go from there.
